Education

Education is the future of everything, including the 36th Ward. We are home to 14 great schools and dozens of other resources. Here is a small selection of the learning that is happening in the 36th Ward!

 

Belmont Cragin Elementary School

  • The Belmont-Cragin Tiger team will provide an academically rigorous and socially supportive environment that will motivate each child reach their full potential. The Early Childhood Center will provide a safe, organized, child centered, Reggio-inspired environment that values children’s rights and individuality.  The Belmont-Cragin School Community will foster and support a curriculum that creates bilingualbiliterate and bicultural students through a quality dual language instruction through high academic standards. All stakeholders will work together to ensure that students graduate from our school with the necessary skills required for high school, college and the world of work.

Chicago Academy Elementary School

  • The Chicago Academy has been producing lifelong learners since 2001. Principal Menoni and her amazing team are dedicated to preparing students to succeed in high school, college, and beyond, while also striving to make a positive and dynamic impact on our world. At TCA, staff, parents, and students think critically and globally. They care about community and respect diversity. Every day, they achieve in a rigorous, supportive environment.
  • Serving over 500 students and the city’s first contract school, we serve a dual mission as a neighborhood elementary school and CPS’s first school-based teacher preparation program for aspiring teachers. In lieu of a Local School Council, The Academy for Urban School Leadership serves as our governing board. The   goal of the CPS-AUSL collaboration is to improve student achievement in Chicago Public Schools by attracting, training, and retaining Chicago’s next generation of exceptional teachers and school leaders.

Chicago Academy High School

  • Just like the Chicago Academy Elementary School, the high school’s goal is to produce lifelong learners. Principal VanderJagt leads an incredible community of learners that contribute to the world through the power of education. The school serves a dual mission, to provide a supportive college preparatory environment for students and a collaborative mentoring experience for aspiring teachers. They share the core values of compassion, commitment, integrity, and reflection, which they call the Learner’s Life. By infusing the school culture with these qualities, they seek to inspire excellence in themselves and their (our) community.
  • CAHS serves over 500 students and grows every year, so make sure to reach out to the school, get involved and help them make the 36th Ward the best Ward in the city!

 

 

Christopher House Charter School

  •  Christopher House is one of two charter schools here in the 36th Ward. They seek to provide a family of schools to help low-income children and their families succeed in school, the workplace, and life. The school partners with families to provide a continuum of education for students birth through high-school as well as educational resources to help parents create and foster stable, self-sufficient families.

 

 

Chicago International Charter School - West Belden

  • West Belden boasts a dedicated staff that fosters close relationships with parents to ensure student achievement. In the 2013-2014 school year, West Belden was awarded a Summer Design Program Grant that helped create a state-of-the-art blended learning environment. Last spring, a $100,000 technology planning grant set the stage for implementation of a robust personalized learning model. More recently, the school was awarded a substantial Breakthrough Schools NGLC Personalized Learning Grant that will help teachers take personalized learning at CICS West Belden to even greater heights!

 

 

Hanson Park Elementary School

  • All students at Hanson Park School will be prepared to succeed in elementary school and beyond. The faculty is trained in best practices to provide quality instruction, technology-enhanced curriculum and authentic assessment resulting in continuous growth. Parents are encouraged to become full partners in their child's education through a variety of classes, activities and formal conferencing.
  • Hanson Park is truly a world class elementary school, lead by a dedicated staff and Principal Belanger. Every member of their great team helps 1,400+ students daily. That is only one of the many great things about Hanson Park.
  • Hanson Park has been rated as a 1+ school for the last two years (about to make it 3). What an amazing asset for the 36th Ward!

 

 

Henry D. Lloyd Elementary School

  • Lloyd Elementary is another fantastic school located in the 36th Ward! Principal Thompson leads a tremendous team of teachers and staff. They are focused on bringing a world-class education to over 1,000 students and they help make the 36th Ward a better place to live.
  • Lloyd is a proud level 1 school! So if you live within the boundaries below, we highly recommend reaching out to Lloyd and enrolling your student!

Josephine Locke Elementary School

  • Few schools make better neighbors than Locke School! Locke is a level 1 school located just down the block from our office. Their mission is to foster meaningful learning for all by increasing rigor and student engagement. Through inquiry, action, and reflection, the students will develop global understanding and attitudes that will lead to productive and successful lives.
  • Principal Fitzpatrick leads a team that is focused on teaching the whole child. The STEM fields are a focus, but the arts are never forgotten. Every time you are walk into Locke, you know its a terrific place for students!
     

  

North-Grand High School

  •  North-Grand High School is more than just a beautiful building. The administration, teachers and staff strive to ensure that students are in a learning environment that creates a nurturing community of life long learners who can strive successfully to achieve their highest intellectual, emotional, social and ethical potential. North-Grand is a fantastic environment where students construct meaning by actively participating in the learning process, embracing academic excellence, high moral values, and proper social behaviors. The school features an intellectually challenging core curriculum, focusing on reading, math, and modern technology. All this is successfully developing fantastic partnerships among students, parents, teachers and community.

Northwest Middle School

  • Principal Strojny has put together an amazing team that is preparing middle school students to become tomorrow’s leaders. Few schools can offer the same one on one time Northwest Middle School offers its students. The building is decorated with banners of different colleges that former students have attended. It is undoubtedly one of the best middle schools in the City and it would be a fantastic place for your student to learn from teachers and fellow students.
  • Northwest Middle offers dozens of great programs, but they are especially excited for the new culinary program! Give them a call and check out why Northwest Middle School is one of the gems of the Northwest Side.

 

 

 

Dr. Jorge Prieto Math and Science Academy

  •  Principal Laureano leads a team of great teachers at another Level 1 school located in the 36th Ward! Dr. Jorge Prieto Math and Science is different though, they have implemented the Everyday Math Program, Balanced Literacy Approach and FOSS/STC and SEPUP Science curriculum. All of which provide the students with hands-on, student-centered learning experiences.
  • In addition to the great team, Prieto is housed in a beautiful GREEN building. This great team has certainly earned the name of Dr. Prieto!

 

 

 

Prosser Career Academy

  • Prosser Career Academy is an institution devoted to providing young people with opportunities to explore their place in the global community. Principal Schall and his great team encourage students to ‘extend their world’ and become independent learners that achieve their dreams. They emphasize Education-to-Careers and develop the knowledge and skills needed for students to be successful on the paths they choose.

Peter A Reinberg Elementary School

  • Through an integrated effort of teachers, students, parents, and community members, Reinberg will educate, inspire, include, and challenge all students. A rigorous curriculum, differentiated instruction, and character development prepares students for college and career readiness in a global society.
  • Reinberg fosters the development of accountability in academics and personal integrity. Principal Loch leads an amazing team of teachers and staff. We are all lucky to have the Reinberg Rockets in the 36th Ward, go Rockets!

 

 

 

 

Steinmetz College Prep

  • The mission of Steinmetz Academic Centre is to focus on student learning for all students, including ELL and students with disabilities, through which students gain knowledge and develop skills needed to function in society and to lead productive lives. To achieve this mission, faculty and staff focus on implementing smaller learning communities, increasing student engagement and personalization, using best practices and school-wide literacy strategies to build students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and comprehension skills, and developing professional knowledge and skills. 
  • To say Steinmetz College Preparatory High School is world class is a huge understatement. Principal Ngo leads a team of dedicated teachers and staff in a beautiful old building. Alumni from Steinmetz have been doing amazing things since the 1930s and the class of 2016 is destined to follow in their footsteps!
